So this is an older book from Harlequin Super Romance. Copy right is dated for 1996. I picked it up at a yard sale for 10 cents so older can be better. The Baby Contract by Lynn Erickson was a page turner. At least in my opinion.
I spent only 2 days reading this book. It wasn't on my kindle, obviously since i bought the book at a yard sale. It has been a few days since i have read anything only because I was working my own work. I had made it to my original chapter 4, but now my old chapter 4 is now chapter 7. My old chapters have turned into 2 chapters. That's okay, but now I found another problem that I skipped over a whole thing without realizing it the 1st time I edited it. Oh well, I will fix so it is better and makes sense! Anyway, on with the book I just finished late last night.
You can buy it for just a few cents on amazon.com if you like. They have new and used copies. You may have already it if you been collecting Harlequin books for years.
Bettie Gay Bryson, like to be called B.G., was traveling from L.A. to Phoenix, AZ with then boyfriend, Jay Pearson. Jay had not gotten the gig he was hoping for in L.A., but had the promise of one in Phoenix. Along the way in Tuscon they were almost out of gas and found an exit only 2 miles away. Driving in on fumes Jay parks to pump gas, mean while B.G. goes into the Trading Post to use the washroom. When she exits the washroom she decides to browse while waiting for Jay to finish pumping gas. With only $8 between the 2 of them it shouldn't have taken so long. While browsing she is stopped in her tracks by Jay having the clerk at the cash register held up with a gun. She tried to yell at him, but he didn't listen. After he got the little bit of cash from the clerk he took off leaving her there at the gas station alone, no clothes, no money, and pregnant.
She was detained that night with Tuscon's police department, with them trying to get Jay's name out of her and she refused. Being in the position she is in detective Greg Tyrrell is called to possibly help him on a case he has been unsuccessful on so far. It is a case with a local lawyer who sells babies by pulling girls in and giving their babies a home but charging way more than a normal adoption fee, plus pays the girls to keep quiet.
Greg enlists B.G.'s help because she is a pregnant and alone. He had plenty of goals for his life and one of them was not to fall in love and start a family, at least not at this point in his life. B.G. was only hoping to find some way to have her baby and get on with her life even if it didn't include the baby's father. She didn't trust someone who wanted to use her anymore. She didn't expect someone as classy as Greg to lover her, or like her for that matter, especially in her state.
Do these to find adhere to their feelings? Do B.G. help put the lawyer behind bars? What happens to B.G.'s baby? What about Jay? To know these answer you will have to read The Baby Contract by Lynn Erickson. It is part of the 9 Months Later collection from Harlequin Super Romance.
