So on Friday I was out finishing up school shopping for my 5 year-old son, who starts his first year of school on Wednesday, when I was searching for a new book to read. Sure, I have plenty on my kindle waiting to be read so I can start looking ta the blogs i follow for new ones to read. I'm sure i am missing out on some good ones while I slowly clear what I already have on there off. Anyway, I found a YA novel at BAM! that was on the clearance shelves. It was only $3.00 so I picked it up and read the back of the book like I usually do when I want to see if a book is worth my time just from the description. So I like what little I read, since I never actually finished reading the back and bought the book. Since I am a club member of BAM! I got a few cents off the clearance price. (Hey, a few cents is a few cents when you have budget that most of the time gets off course)
Anyway the book is called
The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines. Not a very catchy title, but I suppose not all books can be judged by the title like you can't judge a book by the cover. This is a YA (young adult) Romance novel. So primarily for the older teenage girls, boys too if they are into that kind of thing, but usually not. As for why I read it, I have been writing in the YA genre, if this is the first post you are reading. i read in another blog that you should read everything and anything in the genre that you are writing in, but then I read in another blog that you shouldn't read anything in the genre you are writing in. So what do I do you ask? I read anything I want.
I am a big supporter in reading what you like. Read what appeals to you, Read what inspires you. Some take it a step further, like I did, and write what inspires them. I may be 29 years-old, but to read a YA takes me back to my high school days, which I loved for the most part. Even though I enjoy reading romance novel or erotic romance novels, I still like to take a trip down memory lane and read anything that will take me back to when I didn't have much of a care in the world, but hanging with my friends, or being with guy I was dating at the time, and no I was not changing boyfriends like I changed underwear. I only had 2 BFs in while in high school, both more or less out of the picture, with only one I talk to occasionally.
So anyway, I loved the book. I would read it a again. Like I said you can't judge this book by the title of it. You have to open it up be it kindle or whatever e-reader version, or get a copy in paperback or hardback and enjoy it. If you are a parent of a high school girl say 16 and up, then it might make a good book for them. There is a moral to this story. That is : Don't pretend to be someone you're not for the sake of another person. It will only hurt you and the other person in the end.

This is a story about Ashton Gray and Beau Vincent. Ashton is dating Beau's cousin Sawyer. They had been dating for 3 years when the story starts. Sawyer is off with his family for a family getaway while Ash is left home with no one really around. Her only real friend Leann officially started dating a guy and was either with him or working over the summer before going off to college. In comes Beau. Beau, Ash, and Sawyer were friends long before Sawyer and Ashton started dating. When Beau seen that they were dating he and Ash seemed to go their separate ways.
Everything changed when Ash helps Beau and his on-again-off-again girl friend home when they are both too drunk to get home by themselves. They have a short talk that night. The next day everything in Ashton's life changes. Her Grana, grandmother those who aren't from the south, since this takes place in Alabama, comes home and Ashton goes over there to visit. After that she is doing things she hasn't wanted to do since right before she and Sawyer started dating.
To find out what happens between Ashton and Sawyer, Ashton and Beau, and Beau and Sawyer, who are cousins, or maybe they aren't, you won't know until you read the book for yourself.
You look on amazon.com to buy a copy or search the site of your favorite bookstore to get your copy. I found it while looking for a YA that would cover the same topic I cover in my own work. My book is a YA, but deals with some depression, and with time in the other books will be mixed with a little romance, all set for our YA readers.
